Matt Atkinson, National Park Service: A native of
Houston, Mississippi, Matt graduated from Ole Miss before beginning his National
Park Service career at Natchez Trace National Historic Park. His career took him
to other parks including Petersburg National Battlefield, Manassas National
Battlefield, and Vicksburg National Military Park. Matt returned to Gettysburg
in 2008 where he has become one of the park's most popular interpreters and
hosts numerous programs throughout the year. He just recently completed his
Masters in History.
Bert Barnett, National Park Service: A thirty-plus
year veteran of the National Park Service, Bert obtained his BS in History from
Middle Tennessee State University in 1984. As a park ranger/interpreter, he has
worked at a variety of Civil War sites including Stones' River NB, Manassas NB,
Gulf Islands NS, Shiloh NMP and Kennesaw Mountain NBP before coming to
Gettysburg in 1993, where he has combined his avid interest in artillery with
the study of the battle and contributed to other park Seminars. He received the
United States Field Artillery Association's Honorable Order of St. Barbara in
1999.
Troy Harman, National Park Service: A National Park
Service ranger since 1984, Troy came to Gettysburg in 1989 after seasonal
appointments in interpretation at Appomattox Court House National Historical
Park, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Independence
National Historical Park, Valley Forge NHP and Eisenhower National Historic
Site. He currently teaches part time and is working on his doctoral degree from
Lehigh University.
John S. Heiser, National Park Service: Heiser began
his National Park Service career in 1976 at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania
National Military Park before coming to Gettysburg NMP in 1980. A graduate of
Western Carolina University with a BA degree in American History, he has worked
in interpretation, preservation-maintenance, and the historian's office during
his years at Gettysburg. He has been a park historian in the Division of
Interpretation and Visitor Services since 1997.
Karlton Smith, National Park Service: A graduate of
Shepherd University in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, with a BA degree
in Park Administration, Karlton began his National Park Service career at
Independence National Historic Park in 1986. He came to Gettysburg in 1990 where
he has researched and presented programs on different aspects and personalities
connected to the Gettysburg Campaign. He has authored several articles for Civil
War Times Magazine and is the park's recognized expert on Civil War navies and
General James Longstreet.
Charles Teague, National Park Service: Dr. Charles
Teague holds degrees from Gettysburg College, Cornell University, and Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a retired Lt. Colonel with both US Army and
Air Force service and for 14 seasons has been an Interpretative Park Ranger at
Gettysburg. Chuck enjoys the history of Gettysburg and has offered his time and
services to numerous borough departments, including a period of time as acting
chaplain of the Gettysburg Police Department.
Dr. Jennifer Murray, University of Virginia: Dr.
Murray is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Virginia's
College at Wise. She teaches a wide variety of course in 19th and 20th century
American history. Murray's most recent publication is On A Great Battlefield:
The Making, Management, and Memory of Gettysburg National Military Park,
1933-2013, published by the University of Tennessee Press in 2014. Murray is
also the author of The Civil War Begins, published by the U.S. Army's Center of
Military History in 2012. Murray is currently working on a biography of George
Gordon Meade, tentatively titled Meade at War. In addition, Murray worked as a
seasonal interpretive park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park for nine
summers (2002-2010).
