Cape Sebastian, on the southern Oregon coast south of Gold Beach, is viewed from the Oregon Coast Highway, where the sedan of State Parks Superintendent Samuel Boardman is identified by a Highway target above fender-mounted license plate. Superintendent Boardman traveled thousands of miles arranging for the acquisition of better than 50,000 acres of park land during his tenure of 21 years. His portfolio of acquisitions by purchase, gift and exchange included the prominent open headland, offshore rocks and stretches of sandy beach making up scenic Cape Sebastian State Park. 1940s.
